One of the more serious conditions an elderly person can face is loneliness. Loneliness ranks the highest among those
who are widowed or left in nursing homes with no one to visit or show love towards them. Pets are one of nature’s best
sources of love and can be great companions to older individuals.

A wonderful woman who volunteers at www.lsar.org sent me a story about an
eighty year old woman who adopted a young, black lab mix.  They are truly a
match made in heaven! The pup provides love, attention, and companionship and
in return gets a loving home, rides in the car, a yard to play in, daily brushings,
and most importantly…a best friend! Pets often give the elderly a reason to
“keep going” and add purpose to life.
