The Chinese Shar-Pei is an ancient breed originally developed as an all purpose dog. They are medium in size, compact and square in shape. This adorable dogs most distinctive feature is the loose skin that covers its head and body, creating hundreds of wrinkles. It has an oval shaped muzzle which is often called a hippopotamus muzzle. This adorable dog comes in two coat types: short and long. The coat can be any solid color or sable. |
The Shar-Pei weighs 45 to 60 pounds is 18 to 20 inches in height and their life expectancy is approximately 8 to 10 years. Despite their often scowling expression, the Shar-Pei is a calm and good natured dog. They are wonderful companion animals and love to be part of a family. |
The Shar-Pei is an intelligent dog that can be trained to a high standard. These pups are strong minded and very independent, therefore, they need a patient and firm, yet loving owner. Shar-Pei’s are quick to learn, however, they can become easily bored. It is a good idea to keep training and playtime fun, interesting and challenging. This adorable breed adapts well to any living situation as long as they get plenty of exercise. A home with a large, fenced yard is ideal. |
