In September of 2007 Denise decided she wanted to add to her
family. She already had an older cat named Charlie and thought
he would enjoy some companionship in his old age. Denise had
gotten Charlie from a cat rescue group...so of course, her next
cat would be a rescue as well.

When Denise arrived at the shelter she immediately fell in love
with a skinny, ginger and white kitten...now named Travis. Travis
had been wandering the street in very poor condition. Thank
goodness the rescue group found him! After completing the
adoption process, Denise was ready to take Travis home. When
she picked him up from the shelter he calmly went into his cat
carrier. He knew he was going home!

Within five minutes of driving, Denise couldn’t help but notice a terrible smell....poor Travis had an
accident in his cat carrier. She pulled over immediately, cleaned Travis and the carrier and
continued home. Once they arrived, Denise introduced Travis to his new brother, Charlie. Charlie
was not impressed with the new addition and kept his distance. In the meantime, Travis’
bathroom problems continued. By the end of the week he was so lethargic Denise knew that a
trip to the vet was in order. The vet concluded that Travis was intolerant of the high protein levels
in regular cat food. Therefore, he had to go on a special diet. Travis’ health problems have since
disappeared and he is now a happy and healthy cat.

Many animals end up in shelters because their owners do not
know how to deal with health and behavioral issues and
simply give up. Tools are available...if you know where to look
and who to ask! Your vet is a good place to start! Please read
this article about dealing with animal behavioral issues.

Thank goodness Denise was able to recognize that Travis
had a problem but that it wasn’t his fault! She took the time to
talk to the veterinarian and found a simple solution. Thank
you Denise for giving a stray kitty a forever loving home. We
only hope that Charlie has adjusted and now loves Travis as
much as you do!
The adorable Travis
Travis now has a forever home!
