Dog Breed Information
The Chesapeake Bay Retriever
The Chesapeake Bay Retriever is a strong, medium sized dog. They have small
drop ears and yellow or amber eyes. They weigh 55 to 80 pounds, are 21 to 26 inches
in height and live 10 to 13 years. This adorable and friendly pup comes in a variety of
colors including shades or brown, straw, red-gold, and strawberry blonde.
The Chesapeake Bay Retriever is a powerfully built dog.
They are loyal, protective and hard working. They love to hunt
(they are experts when it comes to retrieving water fowl)
however, they make excellent service dogs for the disabled
as well. They are sensitive yet serious dogs who are
devoted, loyal companions.
The Chesapeake Bay Retriever requires a great deal of
exercise. They are strong-willed and have a powerful
working drive. This breed needs both mental and physical
stimulation or they will quickly become bored and possibly
destructive (say goodbye to your favorite pair of shoes!).
The Chesapeake Bay Retriever LOVES to swim! Long
walks are nice, but not enough for this energetic, athletic
breed. If you are a couch potato, this breed probably isn’t
the right choice for your life style.
The Chesapeake Bay Retriever is a strong willed
dog that likes to be in control (dominant!). It is VERY
important to socialize this breed early and often
especially if you want him to get along well with other
dogs. This dog breed loves to be part of the family
and does not like to be left alone for long periods of
time. They thrive on human companionship!
