Dog Breed Information
The French Bulldog
Country of Origin: France
The French Bulldog is a muscular, compact and heavily boned animal. They have
bat-like ears and soft skin that forms wrinkles at the head, neck and shoulders. The
French Bulldog has a short, fine coat that comes in many colors including: brindle, fawn,
white, black and a brindle and white mix.
As its name suggests, the French Bulldog is of French
origin. Though it is called a Bulldog, they do not have
anything in common with the English Bulldog that is
popular today. These compact, friendly dogs are 10 to 12
inches in height, weigh 18 to 28 pounds and live
approximately 11 to 14 years.
The French Bulldog is a wonderful companion. They are friendly, affectionate and
very intelligent. They get along well with people (including most strangers) and are also
good with children (they are the perfect family pet)! If socialized properly, the French
Bulldog also gets along well with other animals.
The French Bulldog enjoys long, leisurely walks.
They do not require a lot of exercise and are
susceptible to heatstroke. It is important to keep an
eye on this breed during the hot summer months as
they can easily overheat. Due to the fact that they do
not require a lot of strenuous exercise, they are the
perfect dog for the elderly.
