The Greyhound is an ancient dog that has existed in its
present state for almost two thousand years! This breed is
large, muscular and sleek. They have long legs that are built for
speed...the ultimate canine athlete! The average Greyhound
weighs 60 to 70 pounds, is 27 to 30 inches in height and lives
approximately ten to thirteen years. They come in a variety of
colors including black, white, red, fallow, fawn, brindle or any
combination of these shade broken by white.
Greyhounds are easy going, gentle, affectionate, loving and mild mannered. They are
generally friendly with other dogs, however, they love to chase just about anything so
be sure to protect the family cat and other animals!
The Greyhound is the fastest of all dogs with a top speed of 45
miles per hour. Though he loves to run free you may be surprised to
lean that this breed doesn’t need as much exercise as other
sporting dogs and is often content to spend much of his day curled
up on a warm couch. Two or three twenty minute walks a day and
the opportunity to run free should satisfy your hound.
Greyhounds are very clean dogs and their close, short coat requires minimal grooming.
Do be aware that this breed gets cold easily and will require a coat in cold weather.
