Rescue-Dog-One

Early in 2002, a man by the name of Lance went to an
animal shelter hoping to find a dog that could be trained as
a service animal. No luck. A short time later, a friend
informed Lance that there was a dog available at a local
rescue that just might fit his needs. The rest is history.
Lance met Marley, an Akita, Rottweiler, German Shepherd
mix, and it was love at first sight!
After only two months of training, Marley learned to pull
Lance in his wheelchair, retrieve whatever he asked for,
and pick-up whatever he may have dropped. Marley is so
smart, she even learned to bring the phone to Lance on
command! Marley and Lance have been an unbeatable
team for over six years. Marley has been a loyal protector,
companion and friend.
Marley is over nine years old now and will be retiring soon
from service work. She now spends her time helping Lance
train her replacement (who by the way, is another rescue
dog!). Marley is a true inspiration! She is proof that
rescue/shelter dogs are smart, loving and valuable family
members. Thank you, Lance, for sharing your story with
us. We salute you for rescuing Marley and giving her such
a good life!
