Sophie
This rescue story is dedicated to the loving memory of Sammi. A pup that was taken away
from her forever, loving home way too soon.

Sophie, an English Setter had been living a rough life. Roaming from campsite to campsite
searching for food and a warm place to sleep was not easy. One day, Sophie’s life
changed and it was a change for the better! A wildlife/parks employee caught Sophie and
immediately took her to the vet. Sophie had been “peppered” by a shotgun, she was
covered in burs and stickers and she was so thin, her coat hung in wrinkles around her
frame. Luckily, the vet that treated Sophie knew of a family who had just “lost” a dog and
might be interested in giving Sophie a new home. Jodi wasn’t interested in replacing her
“lost” dog Sammi, but she could not turn her back on a dog in need. After all, if the vet
could not find a home for Sophie, she would most likely be euthanized. Jodi called her
husband, told him the situation, and he immediately went and picked her up.

Sophie has now been living with Jodi and her family for over three months. She has gained
weight, her coat now shines from daily brushing and she was potty-trained within one
week! Sophie has finished basic and advanced obedience school and she recently received
her Therapy Dog International Certification! What an accomplishment for a dog that was a
frightened stray a few months ago! Now that Sophie is officially certified, Jodi’s hope is that
she will teach others to have faith, hope and compassion. All qualities that Sophie, herself
exemplifies! We give a four paw salute to Jodi and her family for rescuing a dog that just
needed a second chance! Sophie is a true example of all the wonderful things that rescue
dogs can achieve.

PS: Recently, Jodi’s family adopted, Ada, a black Lab puppy that was rescued from a
puppy mill. Thank you Jodi...we are sure that Sammi is looking down from heaven wagging
her tail with pride!
