Strawberry Banana Valentine Cookies for Dogs! |
These yummy heart shaped sandwich cookies are sure to please even the most picky of pups! |
Ingredients: Cookie: 3 Cups of All Purpose Flour 1/2 Cup of Cornmeal 1/2 Cup of Parmesan Cheese 1 Large Egg - Beaten 1 Cup of Low-Fat Milk 2 Tablespoons of Banana Baby Food Icing (filling): 8 Tablespoons Low-Fat Strawberry Cream Cheese 2 Tablespoons of Low-Fat Plain Yogurt 2 Tablespoons of Honey 2 or 3 Tablespoons of Flour ( thicken if necessary) |
Directions: Cookies: In a medium bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal and cheese (go ahead, use your hands if necessary!). Next, add the remaining ingredients (egg, milk and baby food). Once a soft dough has formed, grab your rolling pin and roll dough to desired thickness. Using a heart shape cookie cutter, cut out shapes. Next, using a smaller cookie cutter, cut out shapes in half of the hearts that you have already made (this will make a window - see picture). Be sure to save the center cut-outs as they make cute little cookies! Place all cookies on a cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for twenty minutes (or until golden brown). Allow to cool completely. Optional: Before cooking, I brushed egg whites (that I dyed red with a few drops of food coloring) onto the cookies. |
Icing: I got this dog friendly icing recipe from Party 4 Paws, it is wonderful! In a small bowl, combine cream cheese, honey, yogurt and flour. Mix well! Spread icing onto the heart shaped cookies that DO NOT have the window cut-outs. Place cookie WITH window on top to form a sandwich. If you wish, you can get creative and pipe remaining icing onto the smaller cut-outs (see picture). Store in an air-tight container in the refrigerator. Reminder: Cookies MUST BE 100% cooled before icing. Note: If your dog has allergies or does not digest dairy products well, consult with your vet before feeding! |
